We Are In Hurricane Season

Is Your Insurance Storm Proof?

The Atlantic Hurricane season is June 1 – November 1.  In August, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) updated the 2012 Hurricane Season for “near-or above normal activity”.

If you have not taken the time to review your property coverages, now is the time to talk to one of our agents.  Even if you are not required to carry flood insurance, you can get coverage for rapidly rising waters from outside the home in a separate policy from your homeowners coverage.  You may have coverage for wind and hail, but do you know what your deductible is?  Water back-up is something that generally needs to be added by endorsement.  Do you have it?

The NOAA’s  initial outlook in May for 9 – 15 named storms, increased to 12 – 17; 4 – 8 hurricanes increased to 5 – 8; and the predicted 1 – 3 major hurricanes (Cat 3 – 5) rose to 2 – 3.  As of August 9, the season was already off to a busy start with 6 named storms.

Remember, once a storm is threatening your area, it is too late to make these changes.  Now is the time to make sure you are covered.  Also, don’t put off getting prepared for that rainy day.  Click here for a quick list of easy steps to make sure you will have the essentials ready before a storm comes.
